Villa Lillium
in Athani of Lefkada Island
There are many reasons to visit Lefkada.
Several of them are in Athani.
If you want to avoid crowded tourist eastern coasts then navigate southwest and discover Athani, a small traditional village.
Built on a hillside, it offers a generous unobstructed view of the deep blue Ionian Sea and especially during the sunset hours when the sun sinks into the sea creating a myriad of hues that make the most imaginative color palette.
Then you understand why Athani is a popular destination!
Full of olive and pine trees with rich vegetation and beautiful local thyme honey.
In front of the village lies the beach Yialos. A vast expanse of endless and pure sandy shoreline, waiting for you to enjoy the wonderful blue waters either enjoying the sun bed facilities or isolation in places more private.
The next famous award winning beach is found just three kilometers from Athani and it is the magnificent Egremni beach with green waters.
Driving a few kilometers further, passing through a beautiful green path you reach the well known beach Porto Katsiki. It is popular for its turquoise waters and is constantly among the 10 best beaches in the Mediterranean. Swimming in these crystal clear waters is a unique experience!
It is worth visiting the Monastery of Saint Nikolaos Niras with three venerable nuns shortly before Cavo of Kera, which was founded in the early 17th century and has the oldest signed and dated portable despotic icon of Agios Nikolaos Lefkada.
Surely the white vertical rocks will fascinate you in Cape Lefkata with the symbolic lighthouse. According to the history of ancient Greek mythology, it was the sanctuary of the Olympian God Apollo called Lefkas Petra or Akra from which came the name of the island Lefkada. At this point, according to the Greek tradition the ancient lyric poetess Sappho committed suicide due to love disappointment.
In the village square and the surrounding area you will find a small local grocery stores, restaurants with traditional dishes, fish restaurants and cafes.
